VINE
GEWURZTRAMINER
History
Gewurztraminer is a particularly aromatic selection of old vine always known in Alsace, Traminer Rose. He was once referred to, while its wine was a little less powerful, as the Traminer. Note also that on this occasion the Klevener Heiligenstein, grapes grown on a small area in the region of Barr, is a form of Traminer, also called pink savagnin. Etymologically the name literally means Traminer Gewurztraminer spicy.
Tasting
Ceil: the color is intense, yellow with light golden reflections. The red grapes naturally influences the wine.
Nose: it's a real range of aromas, rich and exuberant, which characterizes Gewurztraminer. The bouquet is powerful and complex. It is an explosion of exotic fruits (lychee, passion fruit, pineapple, mango...), flowers (especially roses), citrus (orange peel) and spices (gingerbread, mint peppermint, clove, pepper). Frequent aromas of honey and ripe fruit also help give an impression to the nose of incomparable richness.
Palate: this wine is full bodied, well structured with the size and fat. Characteristic of Gewurztraminer, freshness is always more discreet than other Alsatian varietals. In retro-olfaction, we find all the aromatic nose, is often combined with licorice. Harvested in ripening the Riesling "Late Harvest" and "Sélection de Grains Nobles" give wines, mellow sweet, very rich and extraordinary aromatic complexity.
Food and wine
Image of the original and typical wines of Alsace, Gewurztraminer goes well with spicy dishes and strong cheeses such as Munster, but the foie gras and spices or herbs strongest. Thus, it is the ideal partner for many Asian dishes: Chinese, Indonesian, Malaysian, Thai and Indian.
Ampelography
Leaf: Small, round, three-lobed with a departure of the ribs in red.
Bunch: Small, tapered, rather loose.
Berry: small, round, pink to light red. Juice flavored slightly musky flavor.
In the vineyards
Gewurztraminer is an early variety moderately productive. It is well adapted to soils marly limestone, granite and sandy clay. It is a demanding grape vineyards enjoying the best presentations.
