History


Two varieties are grown in Alsace Muscat. Muscat said the "small grain" or "Muscat d'Alsace Alsace appeared in the early sixteenth century (it is cited by the Alsatian poet Fischart). Muscat Ottonel appeared in Alsace in the mid-nineteenth century.

Tasting


Ceil: the wine is pale yellow with silvery light.
Nose: this is the best example of wine with primary aromas. The olfactory power is undoubtedly thinking about the grape berry. The intensity of the fruit is sometimes complemented by subtle floral notes.
Taste: vinified dry, it really gives the impression of biting into the grape. The freshness and the delicate bitterness tip contribute to the spontaneity and harmony of the wine.

Food and wine


It is a wine to enjoy in its youth. With its dry, Muscat d'Alsace really opens the appetite. It is also proposed as an aperitif on the best restaurants in the region. Muscat is also popular with asparagus. It emphasizes light cuisine based on vegetables cooked or raw (prepared by steaming, vegetarian).

Ampelography


Muscat said the "small grain" or "Muscat d'Alsace.
Leaf: Orbicularis, thick, moderately quinquelobée.
Cluster: Medium, cylindrical, long and narrow. Bay spherical average, an amber-yellow, thick skin covering his points red at full maturity. Flesh firm, juicy, very sweet, aromatic flavor with a musky.

Muscat Ottonel
Leaf: Small to medium pebbly ogival teeth, medium.
Bunch: Small to medium, cylindrical, spherical berry, medium yellow squash, finely flavored.

In the vineyards


Muscat is ideally planted on slopes very well exposed. White Muscat "small grain" or "Muscat d'Alsace is well adapted to calcareous soils. Muscat Ottonel is an early variety, low acidity and very fine flavor. This variety is very sensitive to climatic fluctuations (sag or loss of the flower in bloom), which explains its scarcity and irregular production. Muscat Ottonel is well suited to clay-limestone. It is generally harmonious blend of these varieties gives the wine aromas finest and most persistent.
